Orlando is the international capital of vacation resorts and theme parks: Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando, SeaWorld Orlando – to mention just a few – are just waiting to be explored. Every year, for a few days in June, the city puts on a brightly-hued rainbow coat as it opens the gates of Walt Disney & Co. for gay and lesbian visitors from across the globe. From the 1st till the 6th of June it’s that time again, and this year’s event marks a special milestone – celebrating the 20th Gay Days edition. Read more about the Gay Days in Orlando 2010!
Miles of beaches, the sun and the sea – welcome to El Gouna, Egypt’s luxury holiday hideaway at the Red Sea!
The destination lies at the foot of jagged mountain peaks and overlooks the vastness of the Red Sea. The weather here is an asset which other regions can only dream about: sunny blue skies on 365 days a year and temperatures of 40°C. By now with a size of 11 million square kilometres, the holiday destination spreads along a beach of about ten kilometres length. But El Gouna has a lot more to offer than just a beach front; fantastic lagunes run through it that divide it into small islands and bays. For many visitors the picturesque holiday oasis seems like a small reproduction of the big, wide world – an oriental atmosphere combined with Mediterranean influences. To the gay traveller it offers an entirely different side of Egypt, since tolerance is an important part of everyday life here – the considerable number of gay tourists for Egyptian circumstances are the best proof. Additionally, the city is an ideal starting point for cruises on the Nile, desert tours or trips on the trail of Egypt’s history. El Gouna is only a few kilometres from Hurghada’s international airport.
The Kiteboarding Club El Gouna is in the north of the city and has its own private beach of 400 metres length. The resort also has a Swiss-run restaurant and a beach bar. The training area is protected by an offshore reef, so that you can learn easily on wonderfully waveless and knee-deep water. To the north you can explore nearly unnavigated waters and in the deep water look out for friendly dolphins eager to communicate. The clubs’s own rescue service provides for a safe and relaxed stay.
The 5-star Steigenberger Golf Resort offers an inspiring and wonderful experience. The 18-hole USPGA golf course offers great views of El Gouna’s breathtaking landscape and waters. It’s the only course in Egypt with a Deutscher Golf Verband and USPGA rating and fascinates beginners and professionals alike. The overall length varies from 4.334 to 6.269 metres with six different tees per hole. Additionally, the club offers training facilites like an aqua driving range with 30 tees as well as pitching, chipping and putting areas.
The managers of the professional diving school “The Dive Connection” promise flexible time planning, highly qualified instructors and individual training.
